I am an information junky. When something catches my eye I want to know everything about it that I can learn. Needless to say I try to keep my interests down because the research sucks up a HUGE amount of time. Because of my driving need to know I learn a lot about things that most people never do because they don't look much deeper than the surface. Having served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Noble Eagle, I tend to be very interested in the politics surrounding the War on Terror. I look at polls and see that favor for the War is flagging. I look at the News programs and I know why. Does anyone remember when a "News Man" reported the story? Does anyone remember when that same "News Man" would have been out of a job in the industry if he fabricated details or reported without ensuring his facts were accurate only to have his report proven wrong? I look at CNN and MSNBC and a host of others and I see people on the screen that are making a living not by reporting but by influencing public opinion through selective reporting....in other words, Making the Story. Its not that they are lying (not directly anyway) so much as they are very selective in what exactly they tell the viewer. Its not the whole story....hell, its not half the story. Its the tasty bits that can get people to tune in to here their view. Its as if the News Media has become a different kind of political lobby....Spinning stories so their 'side' looks better. I wish they'd just tell the damned story, complete and unabridged. I think the public has lost a valuable resource for knowing what is going on in this Country and in the World. It doesn't apply to just the War. Look at Katrina. look at Israel. Look at the reports on price gouuging by the Oil Industry. Spin. Turning on the News is rapidly becoming the same as picking up the Enquirer. Its sad....hell, its infuriating.

That's why I got the hell out of Journalism when I was in college. Too many pompous heads full of hot air not there to learn how to report the story, but how to broadcast their opinion to the masses. Disgusting.
